Which party would benefit from a new leader?

At Present every party except for FG will be lead by somebody different at the next election.

So my question is which party do you think will get the greatest boost from their new leader?

Sinn Fein could really bebenfit from a new leader. Fair enough Gerry Adams is grand for northern politics but if Sinn Fein really want to make gains in the republic they will need a leader that knows about it. Gerry Adams performances before the election cost SF a lot of votes.

None, to be honest. I don't think any candidate is likely to make much difference. All the replacements are either carbon copies of their predecessors or are so closely associated with their predecessor not to make any appreciable change. It is more a case of new faces rather than new ideas. Or maybe old faces in new positions.

Fianna Fáil face a make or break decision regarding their leader. That choice would have a far greater impact on that party's fortunes than any other, and by extention the country. They can strive on valliantly under the leadership of Brian Cowen or regress under any of the other spacers

Wouldn't be a brian lenihan fan then DF? That man makes FF an almost joinable party. I said joinable. not defectable to.

The most interesting change will definitely be the PDs if the upper tiers of this party would ever get of their h*les and decide something, ANYTHING! Some sort of structure or timeline for sorting out the leader quandry. C'mon mary, its not a dilemma on par with pulling out of Iraq or anything.

Oh no, Oh no, no, no. Sunshine you could not be more wrong. Lenno is public enemy number one for PDs and MacCreevyite FFer and Reynoldsian FFers, just about everyone bar the old Haugheyites and the Lenihan family. He is very much from the FF left and would jump into bed with Labour in a heartbeat. BIFFO is the only man. That leave them out business has to be understood in context. Its like anti war demonstrators. They are not opposing those they are in coalition with but the concept of coalition. Now he seems to have been brought around and 'm sure he'll know on which side his bread is buttered, ditto Hanafin(who voted against Des O'Malley's expulsion)

The category Lenihan falls into covers, Micky (Mouse) Martin and Dermot Ahern also.

Kudos on the patronising . That thought me a thing or two. I got the impression Lenny was on the Biffo side of FF because of his ability to answer a direct question.

Also, I met him in the Dail bar when Tom Morrissey was giving me a tour and he was yapping away to Tom for a bit. I felt he was definitely on our side of the senior coalition partner. His media performances are strikingly superior IMHO to those of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Hanafin and that Dermot fella.

I don't know which party will get the greatest boost, but I think FF will lose out if the make Brian Cowen leader. He comes across as arrogant and combative. Bertie was/is great at appealing to all sides. He could believably say he was a republican, a socialist etc. He was able to catch some vital not sure voters. Brian Cowen doesn't have that talent.

Mind you, if Mary Hannifin was elected leader, that could be a big boost for FF

yeah i think Cowen is an excellent number 2, but does he have leadership and public likings that Ahern has ? will he be the gordon brown of irish politics ?
