Depends at what point in it's history you look .... they tend to do a lot of flip flopping.

He must do a search of the site at regular intervals. There's no way he was reading this thread. But as soon as the name of one party is mentioned, he is all over it like a cheap suit.

Sad that someone has nothing better to do.

They'll never get into power", etc. That sort of thing is a self-fulfilling prophecy: OF COURSE if you don't vote for anyone other than FF/FG, no one else will get into power! Isn't this kinda MEANT to be the point of democracy? That we can replace the eejits in power with people that can do something? But so far, unless you count the electoral union between a few tiny socialist parties(AKA, The ULA), THERE HAS BEING NO NEW PARTIES! Even though we complain constantly about those in power, even though a lot of people feel that none of the parties support their views, there still have being no new political parties. I mean, What's the point of democracy here, if we aren't going to try and get change when we want it?

Would Sinn Fein be getting so much support if there were an alternative?

Many have being commenting on the rise of Sinn Fein over the recent days. However, it does lead one to wonder: Is it because people are finally starting to love Adams and his band of popularists and ex-terrorists? Or is it because there is no other alternative?
    * FF/FG/Lab are all establishment parties, that will make sure that no changes happen.
    * The Independents are a popular choice for the undecided, but ultimately, they are irrelevant because they can't change anything either.
    * The Greens aren't growing back anything soon.
    * The ULA are a bunch of Dublin socialists, and are not taken seriously anywhere in the country.

It would seem that Sinn Fein is the only alternative......for now. If there were another party at the moment ran by a few notable economists that were eurosceptic, I'd say that Sinn Fein would not get much more than what they had after the GE last year.

Why do you think the majority want radical change?
If engineers were wrong as often as economists, would anyone fly aeroplanes?

SF are growing cause they are the only civil war party that hasn't been in power and F'ed up. Their leadership and policies have changed that much in the last few years so it really is a mix of Civil war party/no other alternative.

Really? Recent polls show that most people distrust the EU and do not think that our interests are being represented. Maybe that? And was the fall of the most powerful political party in Western Europe not a radical change?

Exactly. But I think that now is the best time in a century for a new party to enter the field and start taking away the gains that Sinn Fein are making.

Being annoyed at the govt or the EU is one thing, voting for radical change is another.Remember that many newspaper polls are designed to raise controversy to sell papers. At the end of the day, most people care about the economy.
