With the local elections two years away, it will be interesting to see how potential local election candidatess fare in the run-up.
Norma Foley, Kieran Moriarty and Johnny Wall will almost certainly run again for FF. Ted Fitzgerald may wish to concentrate on the County Council this time out, so his intentions are unknown. Other FF candidates include Tom Roche, who is principal of Brosna National School, and who ran last time, while the name of Michael 'Fox' O'Connor, a local personality who is involved with sport and charity work has also been mentioned.
For Fine Gael, Pat Hussey will almost certainly defend the seat he won in 2004. FG are on the crest of a wave at the monent and will be hoping to build on this. Leonard O'Donnell, who ran unsuccessfully for TTC last time out, will throw his hat in the ring again, while other candidates who could emerge include Denis Griffin, a nephew of FG Co Councillor Pat McCarthy, and Solicitor Maura Hennessy.
Labour will almost certainly run Terry O'Brien, Karen Tobin and Miriam McGillycuddy, while Maisie Houlihan and Cathal Foley will be SF's front runners. SF will try to get a third candidate in town, likely to be a member of a well-known republican family in town.
The PD's are unlikely to have a candidate in the field given that Collette Garvey has moved onto pastures new. Independent Councillors Johnny Commane and Tommy Foley will stand, while Anthony Dineen, who polled a creditable 689 first preferences in Kerry North has hinted that he will stand.
The Green Party will almost certainly run a candidate, and I am sure there are bound to be a number of candidates from different local pressure groups. This new Tralee Traders association may even run a candidate.
