Interesting point. Gallagher would have to essentially clean out the decks on all those issues and have no doubt left among the public if he were to re-enter public life. If he could manage to do this, I would regard it as a positive step for FF. I don't think age should be a prerequisite for a good candidate but the benefit of youth is that it generally comes with little baggage. Personally, I'd like to see Gallagher run in Louth or Cavan-Monaghan the next time out.

The Independent is reporting that FF TD's are claiming that Gallagher would make an ''ideal candidate'' for Europe or possibly as a successor to Seamus Kirk TD in Louth. Considering one of Gallagher's main achievement was his campaign to ensure European funding for the re-training of construction workers, this is not an absurd idea. Perhaps Gallagher may run as an independent however. This could be a test for Micheál Martin.

Would that be the EU funding that will have to be returned?

No doubt the geniuses in fas were involved in this debacle.
He would sit well in Fianna Fail me thinks
This man has a real chance to shine as an entrepreneuer now, his party is out and he cannot get the favoured treatment. If he can show what he is made of in those difficult times witout having to organise characters to meet Biffo at 5000 a skull, he will surely have made it !!
