I wouldn't be too hard on him or the Greens. They are dealing with mean party machine in FF. How would you react if surrounded by the smoothest political operators in the land offering a few shiny pearls of potential power?

Sure he compromised on his principles. Haven't a majority of the electorate? Its almost frightening how many people have bought into the greed for greed's sake message peddled by FF. (This is, of course, an over simplification - it's the gist though.)

It was ridiculous for an independant to be making such a fuss about Shannon. There is no way he could do anything about it and was only setting himself up to look like a failure. He should have focused on securing deals on issues that directly effect his constituency like JHR and walk away looking like a success rather than a poor mans John Kerry.

I was glad to see the back of Ivor but not very happy to see Finian emerge having regard to his support for the columbia 3-Iwould now welcome Ivor back with open arms , faults and all, because Finian appears like someone that you would expect to find in a poor circus that had a huge shortage of clowns.

"Its almost frightening how many people have bought into the greed for greed's sake message peddled by FF."

Let's face it, this is what the entire election boiled down to. When it came to the crunch a huge majority of the electorate, except those directly impacted by such things, were not really interested in welfare or equality or shannon stopovers or Tara or the state of the health service or The Corrib pipeline or any such things that you might hear being outraged about on Liveline that we were assured by political hacks would make a huge difference in this election.

The outcome of the election was effectively decided on how people felt about the money in their own pockets, their prospect for continuing employment, their ability to maintain their current lifestyles and which party or combination of parties would ensure the Status quo prevailed.

Call FF the party of greed if you like, not to far off the mark but it only reflects the wider greed of a huge number of Irish people within the Celtic tiger. We get the govt we deserve and all that...

I had an argument with my brother about Mc Grath, before the election.

McGrath lives in his constituency and he knows him well.

I maintained that McGrath was willing to do anything to keep his name in lights, his appearance on the - You're A Star Charity Special and his misguided and ill thought out support for the Columbia 3, was proof of this.

I maintained that a vote for an Independent was a wasted vote and that in most cases, the Independent would never make a difference.

My brother has since sent me some pie for my delectation.

A euphoric McGrath has espoused the " better to be outside the tent.." argument but he has still sold out and like the Greens, capitulated on all his principles.

    For shame.
