    Brighton cops target "werewolf" crime

The police over in Brighton are to increase police controls in the city during full moons. This follows a comparison between violent crime and the phases of the moon.

Talk of full moons affecting people's moods has gone on for centuries and many police forces have remarked on increases in crime and odd behaviour in and around them.

What do you think? Superstitious nonsense or an unusual anomaly?

Anecdotally - I have often been struck by nights in the city that have been unusually raucous, in every possible sense, only then to realise that the moon had waxed full.

There are some very obvious evolutionary reasons why we might behave slightly differently on the Full Moon.

Someone told me once that its to do with the amount of water in a persons body (75%+), and how it is affected by the full moon, similar to the way tides are.

It is also worth noting, that the word "lunatic" derives from "luna" or, the moon

In Irish the word "Gealt" ( Crazy Person ) comes from the word "Gealach" ( Moon ).

Having as a doorman/bouncer (depending on the pub) I can testify that full moon nights are definitely busier from a security point of view. Nearly every doorman or cop in the country will testify to that.

It was a full moon 2 nights ago here in Bolivia which coincided with the "Gran Poder" festival. Mayhem.

I know many NYC cops who hate to work if there is a full moon, especially at the weekends. They claim they have stats that prove the city goes mental during these occassions.

Sure that mayhem, wasn't also directly related to the amount of hooch drank ?

Are we discounting the possibility that the reason cops and bouncers are so busy on a full moon is because they themselves are going a bit mental ?

I keep meaning to keep an account of it in the school where I work. I find it hard to believe that there is anything significant in it, at the same time there seems to be something at a superficial level.

Used to do work in an asylum, the full moon period did trigger some of the patients according to the nurses
