    election observers

In most dodgy countries the U.N. observe the elections to see if they are valid, i.e. dodgy parties doing vote rigging etc

is there any independent monitors in the Irish election? i.e. to keep an eye on FF ?

We're entitled to have observers (I think from the UN) but they tend not to have much input because Ireland is a stable country. They focus more on the dodgy countries you mentioned. Or so I believe. Most of the time, its the tallymen who act as observers, for the counting part anyway, because they're hanging in over the counters from start to finish.

I don't believe they've won "fair and square". They lied throughout the campaign about all sorts of issues, from the smear tactics against FG/Lab policies; their own policies (or lack thereof); and especially Bertie's house.

To be reasonable, there was mud slinging from all sides. And anyone with a bit of sense knew what was going on with Bertie's *ahem* situation, and voted either for or against him knowing there are still questions to be answered.

the tally men see all the votes emptied from the boxes, but what if lots of extra FF votes were stuffed into the boxes? when i voted there was 3 garda in the room, just on the phone + chatting etc, they were not looking at the boxes......

Well done to the elected candidates so far. I hope they get to enjoy the rest of their day.
