    RTE Morning Ireland

This morning on Morning Ireland Prof Brendan Drum (head of the HSE) was asked what he thought about proposals for bed increases in the health service.

As a senior civil servant (rather than a politician) on election day this is:
    a) an outrageous question for RTE to ask
    b) an outrageous question for him to answer

given the fact that he will have to work with and implement the policies of either government. It is surely ridiculous that senior civil servants are given the platform to give political opinions on such issues - there would certainly be complaints if it was from another department.

Somehow I think if there's a change of Government Drum will not feature in their plans for the future of the HSE.
    Average expenses per TD in 2011:- FG €36,412, Lab €28,756, FF €45,219, SF €44,413, SP €23,654, PBP €31,866, WUAG €49,911, IND €37,805, CC €13,112.

    You really believe that?

The man was asked to speak to an FG conference not too long ago.

Drumm is in for the long haul.

He is deeply unpopular with doctors and frontline staff in general.

If even true, that's probably why we need him there.
That's complete nonsense. I disagree with you.

Drum has become an advocate for Harney's political agenda rather that an implementer of Government policy and has therefore politicised himself and the HSE, I think his situation would be untenable under a change of Government.

And if he was a pure implementer who didn't speak to the public and media, you'd tell us how he was aloof and unaccountable.

As for politicising the HSE, you're b1tching about it on politics.ie How's them apples?
