If FG were to be largest party after the next GE results, could Labour as prospective goverment partners insist on a change of leadership in FG. Seeing as there are significant doubts surrounding Enda Kenny's leadership qualities even among his own party?
    Finally somebody understands me !

    That's exactly what I'm asking.

Legitimate question, and I'm sure it won't go away, much to the chagrin of our FG friends. When is the next heave against Enda due again?

Can anyone give a valid arguement that Gilmore would be a better choice - all I can see is that he is happy to avoid making any hard choices and coming up with soundbites??

    the job spec

It is too far from the election to worry about the next Taoiseach. The mood seems to me to be hardening against FF as more people express desperation not only or mainly for their own futures but that of their children and even grandchildren. The scale of the Anglo losses are starting to hit home as figures like €10000 for every individual in the state sink in. I have said for a while that the scale of destruction on FF will only get worse as cuts follow debt follow bankruptcy. And FG in all this? In all honesty what different route do they offer from FF. I am not saying that any entity has or that detail can be expected from an opposition but to gain any credibility FG & Lab have to make some effort to suggest a direction. To some extent it does not matter what that direction is but rather some sense of movement so that those who wish to invest time, money and emotion will be motivated and begin to lift the deepening despair. Does even most committed FG supporter really believe that deep in his soul and psyche Enda can do that? That is the job spec.

But why would he? Because he doesn't like him? I've never even seen any evidence of that.

Why can't Kenny ask for Gilmore's head and demand that Pat Rabbitt is Tanaiste or whoever. It's just as stupid.

The Fine Gael Parliamentary Party decided whether right or wrong that Enda Kenny was the best man to lead the party and through that the best man to be Taoiseach. That was their decision and they made it. This isn't 1948, there is no Civil War bitterness.

If I had any clout within FG in that situation I would insist that Gilmore not alone step down as leader of Labour but that he resign his seat in the Dail altogether before any coalition was even discussed.

Labour and FG should rule out coalition completely and force the electorate to destroy FF as the only way of preventing them from getting back into power.

I think there's room for negotiation there when the GE dice fall.
They failed, Kenny will be Taoiseach, Gilmore himself will be a failure if he is not able to pass 30 seats, Let him mind his own job, not someone elses.
