    I previously posted on this thread about the election law being there can be no more than 168 TDs and no fewer than 164 TDs. With the Dail as it stands with 163.

    The government by not holding any by election breaks the very law they passed but it seems no legal consequences for doing so were included.

    Are you sure about those numbers?

    I don't think the Constitution mentions specific numbers of TD's but does state that, given the size of the population, we need a certain number of TD's. I thing there is a range given between 130 and 170 but I'm not sure on the specifics.

    I think if the govt were in breech of the law here FG and Lab would not hold back in demanding the bye-elections be held.

    That law just says that when designing the constituencies, the constituency commission must create the constituencies so that there is between 164 and 168 seats. See this report.

    It doesn't say anything about by-elections.
