They really need to have a good reason for not calling them. I'd love to hear calamity justifying her reasons.

What does the law say about it? I would think there is (certainly ought to be) a maximum period you can have before the seat must be filled.

No, I think she said that it would be before the end of the year but then joked she hadn't said which year. It was pretty cringe worthy stuff on the WiP I think.
Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote.

There is no maximum period that is the problem, it is one major aspect of Dail reform that we need implemented as it is a joke how long people have to wait for a by-election

Election Law prevent no more than 168 TDs and no less than 164 TDs.
Are we not now on 163?

Not that these guys are exemplars of democracy, what with their supposed secret deals to support the Government.

If the Government is basically refusing to hold a bye-election for fear that it will lose its majority, then is the Government not acting illegally ?

Surely this can be pushed very hard by the opposition ?

Sometimes I really wonder about the backbone of Irish opposition parties. There are times they really seem like they just don't even bother!

    The constitution says:

Thus, by-elections are completely controlled by the law and the law says that the government can do whatever it wants.
