On one hand he could be a 'good' President in a general sense, but then so would Mick Wallace,Jack Charlton or god forbid Bono.

However I'm under the impression he's not as popular as he's probably frequently told, similar to a wannabe pop star being told they've a great voice. He's largely famous for being gay,and maybe has other qualities rather than the other way around. He's very much a darling on the chattering classes,I can't see how he has mass appeal beyond that sphere.

I would be very proud of a President like David Norris. Yep, I'd sign up for that.
Yes, Lazarus, he is Irish and a direct descendant of Bram Stoker, creator of Dracula. In fact, he looks very like him.

His accent is anything he wants it to be. I was there when he addressed the Gay and Lesbian Society at Maynooth one evening nearly 20 years ago and it was one of the most entertaining couple of hours I've ever had. He switched from his own educated Dublin accent to the council official "Dub", then to his Egyptian and Israeli boyfriends, a Scottish acquaintance, Americans of various kinds, a British Tory, a Yorkshire Labour man, and so on and so on ... Every bit as talented as the late great Dermot Morgan.

He could easily make a good living as a stand-up comedian.

He joined us for the cheese and wine reception afterwards and I found him a very charming and friendly man.

I'd have no problem with him representing us as President, as there would never be a boring moment.

Lazarus, he is Irish through his Fitzpatrick ancestors.

David Norris in an email to yours truly replied positively to the proposal for "Ireland's National Music Sculpture Park" to be located in the Iveagh Gardens at the rear of the National Concert Hall. The Man is intelligent!

I remember him mocking his posh south dublin Protestant accent on TV then doing an excellent inner city accent recalling a story about Brendan Behan. Yes he is a very funny guy.

But what is the point of the presidency? It's up there with the Seanad on the chopping block for me. Waste of money and an inexplicable role to the majority of the population. Get the Supreme Court to sign off the bills.

What legal training did little Sean T have, or Hillery a medical Dr. Or the great man Dev himself - only training he had was in dividing people and and as Indo supplement said, staying at home in time of need in Treaty negotiations. On the other hand look what we got in former jurist and supreme court judge, Cearbhaill O Dalaigh, a totally unsuitable person who sulked and ran, and once went to Brussels and gave a speech which included barking like a dog and scandalised everybody listening.
You'd think Kenny committed Treason and brought in IMF. Cowen had all in stitches in Galway at 3.30a.m.but he was "not impaired" -DD Power. FF=Publican páirtí an IMF.

Below are the odds from Paddy Power at the moment. If I had to pick from this list Norris would definitly get my vote.

    Brian Crowley 9/4
    David Norris 3/1
    Bertie Ahern 8/1
    John Bruton 8/1
    Mairead McGuinness 10/1
Sean Kelly (ex GAA President) 10/1
    Fergus Finlay 12/1
    Mary O’Rourke 12/1
    Michael D.Higgins 14/1
    Mary Davis 16/1

Excuse my ignorance of betting odds but those this mean he's the second favourite?

    And who is Mary Davis?
