He does look very "impish" and is a joy to listen to. Is his accent very English, or is it an accent that belongs to a west brit type family? I take it he is Irish?

I would be very proud of a President like David Norris. Yep, I'd sign up for that.

He was born in Leopoldville (Belgian Congo). He joined cousins in Ireland after his father died according to wikipedia.

Yep, his mother was Irish at least, methinks.

In any event, he could well get the Labour/SF independent nomination. Labour have very little to call on themselves, plus they might think that doing another "Robinson" would be good for them electorally. If he did run I would LOVE to see him take on the right wing catholic wingnuts who would, without doubt, oppose him as President.

It would be good to have an open gay in the Aras. It would send out a message to gays in Ireland and indeed across the world. I also think he would bring a lot of fun to the Presidency. This would be a recognition of his work championing human rights for minorities in which he has done a lot of good.

He is left leaning, a member of Labour, and a human rights campaigner. This would be good for the progressive left in Ireland.

I really hope he gets the nomination. He'd definitely have my vote.

Methinks a lot of conservative/liberatarian-right gay voters would also oppose him (me for a start). His opposition to the IRP Bill (which he has called "unconstitutional") is a problem for a start.

Under the current oireachtas configuration he would need the backing of Labour to even get the nod.

I cannot see 4 County Councils backing him so will have to be Oireachtas Members

SF will want Gerry Adams for president for 2016, Green Party (if they are still in existance will back a FF nomination probably)
