    Dublin South candidates

George Lee's gone - will we see the same runners as last time round? IMO Alex White will definitely run, and is probably the favourite. Presumably FG will opt for a grassroots local this time round - did anyone make a splash in the locals for Dublin South? Also who is the likely FF runner? Seamus Brennan's daughter may give it a go this time round, or the ever-hopeful Maria Corrigan.

    Discuss.

As I suggested on the Leadership thread, Gay Mitchell should be brought back from Brussels as Leader and candidate for Dublin South. Competance and a vision are what is needed.

Kenny isn't quite finished yet. The question now is simply whether FG want to discard their tepid figurehead now or keep him there until after a GE to keep the party united. Hmmm.

Dumping a leader mid-term through a parliament doesn't sit well with the electorate, and leaders who are appointed by the party in such circumstances doe not have any mandate. On thing FG can throw at FF is that Cowen has no mandate... so dump Kenny and...

Jim O'Leary will almost certainly be FG candidate.
Alex White will go up alright and I would suspect Sheila Brennan.

O'Leary would have to be favourite. White did very poorly against Lee last time around.

The main difference is that Cowen is in government without a mandate.

O'Leary was very generous letting Lee into South County in the first place. He is an excellent Councillor on DLRCOCO. I would expect him to poll very well

Jim got the highest FG vote in Dublin in the locals as far as I know. It will be a tough one to win the seat though.
