O'Leary would have to be favourite. White did very poorly against Lee last time around.
Alex White came in second to a man touted by FG to have the ability to walk on water and turn water into Guinness.

Christ on a bike, does anyone seriously believe Maria Corrigan's appointment to the Senate was anything other than Ahern giving a nod to his mate's bird?
I haven't a clue as to her abilities but given everything we know of FF and especially Ahern, it would be lunacy to assume anything else.

I assume she felt her inside line to the Drumcondra heavyweights was guaranteed to fast track her career.
Now that association is a giant mill stone for her.
Near term she has no chance, best hope is to cling on for a few years and wait for the toxic smell from her former pals to subside.

But is anyone really going to compare the vote pulling power of Jim O'Leary with that of George Lee?

    No one is...

Alex White however could only manage c.750 votes more than Shay Brennan who was viewed by all sides as an absolute disaster candidate. It also must be noted that Dublin South has no Sitting Labour Candidate (that is no seat out of 5), a Labour win must be voted as unlikely.

O'Leary is a highly capable vote getter as is evidenced by his results in the local elections.
ElectionsIreland.org: 2009 Local - Dundrum First Preference Votes

As compared to Alex White who only scraped in in the 2004 locals (ElectionsIreland.org: 2004 Local - Terenure Rathfarnham First Preference Votes), the last time he won a proper election (discounting his Senate panel victory).

I have done a certain amount of polling around Dublin South and it is fairly steadfast FG and FF. Labour are not popular in the constituency.

Who will get the FG nomination will it be Jim O'Leary, FF should select Maria Corrigan I can't see either FF or Labour winning the seat, O'Leary would probably get between 30-35% of the vote in a very middle class constituency.

Lahart must surely be in the running for the FF nomination considering he got in on the first count with over 3,600 votes in the Local Elections. That was the biggest vote for a Fianna Fail candidate in Dublin and third highest in the whole country (I know electorate sizes etc can be wildly different).

The successful candidate will be either White (if he's polished up his media performances, which admittedly were understandably crabby due to GLee) or presumably O'Leary.

People here will vote for whichever candidate they think will damage FF the most. It won't be on a first count that's for sure.

On a side note, I would like to say that apart from the local candidate, the only direct doorstep I had was from Shay's entourage - two family members. We did have a pleasant debate and while I made it clear I had no intention of voting for Brennan, it was good to see that they were making an effort.

If Shay wants to make it in politics, he might take a leaf from his sister's book.
"Take a leaf from his Sisters Book" You mean say nothing and do nothing. Absolutely useless and put the two Brennan together twice as useless. I'm FF and I would not waste my vote on either of them....

If I didn't know better I say this was wrote by a hapless Brennan.....Afraid of Corrigan...and so you should be...

FYI, Maria Corrigan has huge ability and was first elected to DLRCOCO in 1999so I think you can rule out Fast Tracked..... I think if she where to run in a bye-election, and I believe that she will this time out, she will do well, even take the seat...
