Based on where FF| are in the polls in Dublin, I agree even allowing for a stronger upswing. In the locals across all 4 local areas only 4 cllrs were elected same as lab vs. FG 7. That being said I can't see there being a by- election for a while

Nonsense, mandate comes from the 2007 General Election

I dont think so...Maria canvasses, and works all the constituency...You should see her doing her clinics up in Whitechurch...Alex Whites backyard...and he is no where to be seen!!

She moved on from Burke some time ago, but she didn't venture outside the FF gene pool.

Sounds like you've spent quite a bit of time with White? One thing is certain - this is his LAST chance. If he fails on his 3rd attempt to get a seat, the rest of the party won't be giving him a 4th chance.

According to today's Tribune Shay Brennan has taken redundancy from Anglo-Irish and will be seeking to run again in the by-by-election.

Can't see him having any hope in the by-election, he is seen as loser and a big one at that.. she has the faintest of possibilities of getting a seat in a General Election if Kitt is really not running (on the basis that FF will still get approx 25% of the vote no matter who they put forward)

He was just 1,000 votes behind White last time round.

One question to be answered is to what extent the traditional 'sympathy vote' will wear off 2nd time round. This 2nd go is a further 12-15 months down the road from Seamus' demise. I do not think this is going to go any better for Shay.

Shay Brennan has no chance of being elected. Repeat, no chance. Maria Corrigan would poll better because at least she has a track record, but again, under the current circumstances she has no chance of being elected. Repeat, no chance.

The successful candidate will be either White (if he's polished up his media performances, which admittedly were understandably crabby due to GLee) or presumably O'Leary.

People here will vote for whichever candidate they think will damage FF the most. It won't be on a first count that's for sure.

On a side note, I would like to say that apart from the local candidate, the only direct doorstep I had was from Shay's entourage - two family members. We did have a pleasant debate and while I made it clear I had no intention of voting for Brennan, it was good to see that they were making an effort.

If Shay wants to make it in politics, he might take a leaf from his sister's book.
