The poll says that too, FT.
Most. But 72% want a reduction. Govt policy and that of the main parties should thus be geared towards facilitating/encouraging and in the case of non-EU citizens - compelling - such a reduction. Illegal-immigrants must be removed from the State. In particular, the Immigration, Residence and Protection Bill 2008 must be enacted in order to end the absurd and exorbitant waste of money involved in judicial-reviews of asylum-cases. The JRP is rampantly abused, with asylum-cases accounting for 60% of all judicial-reviews, according to the media.

The barristers in Leinster House should think of the cost to the taxpayer, rather than just the potential goodies to be acquired from the free legal-aid for their bank-balances.

Why should Irish people expect to be paid handsomely for basic administrative and professional work that is performed in India for a fraction of the cost ?

Immigration is self regulating. When an economy is doing well immigration will rise and vice versa. People largely don't leave their homelands and friends and families for the fun of it.

The Chinese are in China. The Irish person expecting to be paid for that work is in Ireland and has a vote. That is the scary thing about this for the inmates of Leinster House.

Name a barrister in Leinster House who's making money from free legal aid given to asylum seekers. Just one.

The majority cannot therefore be the elite.

Indeed - which is why I've long thought the immigrants that came here should have votes

Are we going to regularize the immigrant situation ? I know that people from UK can vote in our general elections but why not our new immigrants ? They pay taxes etc ?

Who would they vote for ?

    cYp
They're part of our society now too - they pay taxes - and I don't like the idea of the natives ganging up on them due to some "birth right"

Ah cmon - if you are going to abuse the poor fecker - at least get your terminology right - I assume you mean xenophobe as opposed to racist as colour, ethnic group doesn't come into it.

All he is doing is just quoting from a poll - which is a statement of the bleeding obvious for anybody who was canvassing in rural Ireland in the locals and Lisbon this year -

Ye mightn't like it - and I dont , seeing as unless my luck changes radically on the job hunting score , I'll be an economic migrant early next year myself - but not liking it and wishing it wasn't true and putting your head in the sand will not make it go away - its up to the mainstream to address this issue in such a way before somebody who doesn't give a flying f*ck about the sensitivities involved comes along and then the proverbial brown stuff will hit the fan big time.

Not surprised by the poll - but even it underestimates the , how shall I put it, "unease" that is right across this country at the immigration from Eastern Europe and further afield when their own are struggling to find work themselves - people are very reluctant to say it because the PC brigade (mostly middle class AB labour voters etc most of whom dont come in an asses roar of the economic competition that unskilled immigration brings) would fire "racist" in their face from the off .

I've had my ding dongs down the years with FT and the chancer is many things - but he hasn't got a racist bone in his body - read all 10 billion of his posts - you wont find one with anything even approaching racism - there are enough gobsh^tes around here for your dose of that.
