BBC/ITV Exit Poll:

Labour 37%
Conservatives 32%
Liberals 22%

They predict a Labour majority of 66 - way below wht had been expected by the media, and new labour cheerleaders.

Conservatives doing a lot better than expected- expected to gain 50+ seats

Lib Dem election looks to have been a damp squib - BBC exit poll predicts a gain of just 2 seats!

First result in: Sunderland South, one of Labour's safest seats.
Majority cut by 2,000 votes, with big increase for Liberals.

The exit poll highlights three things: Labour doing worse than expected, Tories doing much better, Lib Dems failing miserably to make the predicted breakthrough
