Should the Invigilator (Teacher) be disciplined?

I know there is another thread on the actual event but we must ask whether the teacher will be disciplined for opening the wrong leaving cert papers.

I went to a school where some teachers worked hard, and some did flip all...and got away with it until they retired. There was no sense of responsibility.

So now we have a situation where one teacher has made a boo-boo and now 60,000 kids have to sit an unscheduled exam on Saturday.

The invigilators get paid very well for this work so is it reasonable to assume that they should also face the consequences when they make such a fundamental error with such grave results?

Personally I don't think the teacher should be sacked from his/her teaching job, but I do think that their entire salary for the invigilator job should be taken off them, and they should be relieved of this post immediately. In private enterprise, if you can't do thee most basic job, you have to go. SHould we have the same here?

Perhaps a mild rap on the knuckles is called for, such as disallowing them from supervising exams again, and docking their pay for this exam set. But I wouldn't advocate more than this. It would seem to be a simple error.

I think it is worth asking how such a mistake could be made. Where the two sets of papers alongside each other, and if so, should they have been?

I believe they get paid a lot for this extra work? Yes, they should be fired, along with the clown that checked the correct paper was handed out. Apparently 2 people have to sign for the paper. Apparently nobody was notified for ages also.

    Nothing will happen of course.

If somebody in the private sector makes a simple error that costs a lot of money then they will get in the $hite big time. The second signature on the envelope needs to be punished also.

Whats the odds we get a "task force" or "strategic review committee" or some other nonsense like that from dept of education? Something that will cost a fortune and take ages to report.

After many years of boom, why oh why are these papers not delivered electronically each morning and printed at the schools? After all, we are a world beating super up to date open knowledge based economy.

I sat at the front of the class during my leaving many years ago and back then the exams came in sealed plastic with the exam name and a date on the exam cover.

To be it seems like absolute sloppiness. As Digout said, even without malicious intent, if this was the private sector there would be accountability. I think a minor slap on the wrist is not enough. He/she should be replaced as aninvigilator immediately, forfeit his/her invigilator salary, and then there should be some financial discipline on top as well.

That way we will have a culture of accountability.

We don't know enough to make such a call.
Depends - Did they attempt to cover up ?
Are the envelopes holding the papers not countersigned for?
The overall record of the people involved should be looked at including those who appointed them.
