    None of this is real

    While watching the Vinnie Browne show, I took refuge in reading this academic study which concludes, on the basis of an overview assessment of modern scientific discoveries, that none of this is real.
    You're not real, I'm not real, Vinnie Browne isn't real, the recession isn't real. In fact, the world, and the entire universe, are not real.
    Instead, apparently we are living in a virtual reality projection. This theory apparently resolves all of the major insoluble issues facing science currently, such as the Big Bang and the universe's possession of a maximum speed, as well as the many bizarre things occuring on a quantum level, such as the existence of quantum equivalence and the uncertainty principle.
    So, how do you all feel about being virtual?

    When I consider concepts like this I get very disappointed at how prosaic my virtual world is.

    Ah it's not so bad ... have "existed" there for years (actually I have been here ) ... the academic study is correct;

    Virtual worlds, avatars, 3D chat, online meetings - Second Life Official Site

    (While on it P.ie should be on SL (that's short for Second Life to the "uninitiated" imagine the "virtual" representation of those you hate so much being there discussing with ya in a virtual 3D sense) check out the Dublin Sims ... IDA and "Tourist Crowd"/Bord Failte??? are there already

    Ah, but Second Life is only an embedded virtuality WITHIN this virtuality...
    The crucial difference is, in this reality, we can't access the interface.

    Read "The World as Will and Representation" By Arthur Schopenhauer, jady.

    He'll clear it all up for you.

    P.S. I recommend the Payne translation.

    Rene Descartes is sitting at a bar and he orders a glass of wine. A beautiful woman walks in and he offers to be her a glass. So they sit and talk for hours, with Descartes buying buckets of wine for this woman. By closing time Descartes thinks he has a chance with her and invites her back to his place. She declines, telling him she must return to her husband. Descartes turns back to the bar to see the bar man adding up his tab.

    "That'll be a hundred Francs, Descartes." says the bar man

    "I think not!" says Descartes as he disappears.

    I know this sounds really pathetic but the way I came to think about this was through the sims... as computer processing powers continue to power ahead and the capacity to create virtual worlds grows eventually it could be possible to do something like this (or at least to my very limited knowledge of computer science).

    Hmmmm I do know some Trans-humanists quite well from SL (granted mainly American obviously) they're convinced within 30 yrs the embedded virtuality and this virtuality will be indecipherable (if one wishes) ..... kinda think of the Matrix maybe

    Damn..... rephrase .... Transhumanism
