Hi teachers,
How are your schools coping with the increased stress brought on by the recession? Two teachers in my school are off with long term stress, probably accentuated by the increased social problems as a result of the recession. I believe our job is far more difficult than it has ever been and we are not very well rewarded for this.
We have enough threads on p.ie, dedicated to slagging teachers off so I would appreciate answers from teachers only on this thread.
I was a teacher for 4 years in another country and teachers in this country are very very well rewarded and there is no proper quality control and assessment.Originally Posted by robert151410

I have several friends who are teachers - I have many other friends who wish they were in the position my teacher friends are in.
Reality...
Teachers here have to put up with the biggest social change this country has ever ungergone. And there was no training for the massive influx of people.
Do you mean you want only sympathetic replies which will support your own views, and won't make you face the reality of how the rest of us might see the teaching profession as a damned cushy number?

Awwwwwwwwwwwww! Why not just teach they manage it in other European countries. The long long holidays should allow you to recharge the batteries.

And most other people are worrying about the serious risk of their losing a job - swings and roundabouts really. Teachers have their difficulties but no more than any other job.
Are you off for two weeks now? Your Easter break is more than a third of what most people get in a year.
I have been in terrible situations before and come up with my own plan to remedy them. It works!

When teachers are in front of a class, they have to be on their toes. No daydreaming possible in a class of thirty pupils.
As opposed to what job which allows you to daydream? In most jobs if you have a series of off days you are shown the door, I have experienced teachers who have made a career of it.
As I said, nothing against teachers but you are well rewarded both in payment and in holidays and yes your job is stressful but so are most jobs just most other people don't have the time or the job security to make a lifestyle out of complaining.
