The Labour Party To Nationalise All Catholic Schools

The Labour party are basically shooting themselves in the foot with their socialist plans to nationalise all Catholic primary schools.

Press releases » Media centre » The Labour Party

"Ruairi Quinn TD, Labour Party Education Spokesperson, has called for the state to be given ownership of all 3,200 primary schools in the state..."

"I think it is fair that the state takes the title deeds to all schools in the state..."

"The benefits of state ownership are obvious. We can ensure these properties remain schools in the future and we can launch a Sustainable School Programme [read 5 year plan] which would ensure that the state can invest in our infrastructure. I think this measure is long overdue and can only be to the benefit of our education system and the taxpayer."

I.e. the biggest land grab since the Protestants were forced off their estates.

    They're also a pro-abortion party.

They'll never, ever get a vote off me as long as I live. A party of dangerous anti-Catholics and militant atheists with faddish hair-brained policies.

To the tune of "The Eton Boating Song":
    After the next election
    under the socialist fools
you won't be allowed an erection
    for that's against the rules.
And the State will own your bollocks
    And they'll nationalise your tool
Yes the State will own your bollocks my friend
    And they'll nationalise your tool

To anyone who thought the Labour Party had gone all centreist and lost their socialist roots, think again.

Well given that the RC CHurch still owe the state millions for the indemnity deal, it's not unreasonable methinks!!

You can't have it both ways. The State pays for teachers in catholic schools but don't own the schools or, for that matter, control their day to day operation. It's a historical anachronism.

If any church wants to have faith schools, let them pay for their running, including teachers salaries.

Excellent! About time one of the political parties had the balls to adopt this as policy.

If the various churches don't want the state involved in education, then they should stop accepting state funds for their schools.

They want to eradicate Roman Catholic Education which has provided generations of well-taught Irish People.

We'll be like Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge with them in Power and Eamon Gilmore would be PolPot!

You could look at it another way,the state under the constitution have to provide education for their people,The RC Church are the Landlords and the government are the tenants .
If they owe the state money ,well then they should be made sell the properties.

A champion of the people emerges with the age-old and appealing promise of "something for nothing" - to be financed through every-increasing taxes. Supply and demand are thrown out of gear - the overhead goes up; the effective use of human energy goes down; the standard of living is lowered because money cannot buy wealth that is not produced.

And in the process, the Labour party will remain a minority party in Ireland.

I am a proud Catholic but I dont believe in schools being run by religion. As long as it doesn't go too far the other way, whereby teachers get sacked for mentioning their faith and students are forbidden from wearing religous items.
