Gov not spending our taxes on education

RTÉ News: Schools to seek extra funds from parents

A survey of schools by a teachers' trade union has found that a majority are preparing to increase the voluntary contributions they request of parents in order to try make up for the shortfall caused by cutbacks.
The ASTI surveyed 20 second level schools and found that 15 of them planned to ask parents for an increase in contributions this September.
More than half said that they would be forced to reduce subject choice for students, dropping such subjects as chemistry, music and home economics.

Almost half the schools said they would be forced to curtail or drop special programmes, such as the Leaving Certificate Applied and transition year.
The survey found that some schools were losing more than two teachers.

Are you surprised? Since when did FF spend our taxes on stuff that benefited the people (and their children) who contributed the most.

Do you think a properly educated population would touch FF with a barge pole come election time? Of course its in their interest NOT to pump money into education.

What do you mean not use our taxes? Does not the state pay teachers and increase their pay by increments every year (whether the pay rise is justified or not). Then the government also pay principals and inspectors who produce nice reports. And academics get a nice chunk of change for their contribution. Don't forget the vital role the VECs and other bodies play in administering the whole scheme. After paying all these pay packages and guaranteed pensions, sure we have to borrow for anything else - and we can't be doing that. .
If the banks are out for a bail,
and Lenny's efforts end up as a fail,
    when the Somer does come,
    to the Country they'll run,
And leave a Fine mess for the Gael.

Endinf the one Party (FF) state:
