Great news. Let those who want 3rd level education pay for it not the taxpayer. Student loans are the way to go.

Difficult to talk about investing in the future when you can't pay the day to day bills.

I think the most important question here is who should be paying for the investment.

Absolutely education is an investment in the future, but people can save and pay for that investment, or approach a credit union or other private lending institution to front them the money to pay for it. They reap the returns of that investment, as does society, without the cost to taxpayers.

Fully agree, they should bring back the fees ASAP.

Countless amount of times i had seen mates of mine in the past getter their student help check every month and blowing it on drink, while i wasnt entitled to any handouts.

too many people have been educated in this country, there are not enough jobs to go around.

Yes, that's it: build up our knowledge economy by making it harder to get into colleges and make all the newly unemployed people not interested in returning to college to due the cost involved. Smart thinking.

Speaking as someone who could not afford to go to University under any circumstances if fees were reintroduced I am opposed to this. I come from inner city Dublin and receive a City Council grant. Without this and free fees I would never be able to go to University. This is just lunacy IMO.
