    Universities Advertising in the Metro

Saw an ad there for UCD this morning on my daily jaunt on the chariot of the proletariat. The morketing girls have really run ahead of themselves for all I can see. I mean who's paying for this BS? Since when did reputable universities have to resort to enticing the proles as if they were selling Nike air bubble shoes or fancy phones? Maybe that's what degrees have been reduced to these days: a fashion item, status symbol, form of individual identity.

And it's not just the Metro: they're advertising on bus shelters, on the radio (NUIM have the slogan "Ireland's university town"!), on billboards, on google-ads, etc.

It's only a matter of time before they start advertising in the pub jacks, on condom packets and on burger wrappers.

Whilst I'm sure there are many discussions in the past that are akin to comparisons between newspapers and pub jacks' ads (particularly of a Sunday.......) - what exactly is your point?

Colleges want to reach a specific audience, and I assume they believe they'll reach them in the Metro.

Universities want to attract students, so they get higher points for their courses, get more students, and ye know............... etc. etc.?
