PPP, Guaranteed Corruption in 7 schools to be built.

Seven new PPP schools to be built - The Irish Times - Tue, Dec 16, 2008

    Public-Private Partnership (PPP)

It wouldn't surprise me if the word partnership was chosen specifically to make it 3 P's rather than privatised marketting and advertisement run school which offers access to the public, not only cheap but profitably.

    How many Pepsi's am I if I drink 3 Pepsi's and I win a free bottle?

This Batt O'Keefe fella... I'm lost for words as to how he could consider this idea for more than 2 seconds.

There are lots of PPP schools all over the country, and they're all in a better state of repair than the ones owned by the Department.

A builder builds a school and leases it to the Department. The state gets all the benefits and none of the headaches.

Do you think when the Department pays for the construction of a school building that the builder doesn't make a profit?

The Board of Management has complete control over the building. What are you suggesting? That the owner of the school building is going to be allowed advertise their products and services to kids?

Seriously, some of the posturing on this site is beyond all credibility,
A demagogue is someone who will preach doctrines he knows to be untrue to men he knows to be idiots.

The builder can make a few profit slices

once on building it the builders profit, and an ongoing profit on leasing it as the leasing payments are likely to exceed the cost of finance.

Presumably capital allowances will apply @ 4% as will interest payments be set off against lease income

The government can borrow money at a lower cost than any property development company.

Nothing wrong with tendering out the maintainance contract every two tears

    goosebump:

"Do you think when the Department pays for the construction of a school building that the builder doesn't make a profit?"

No, but don't be so closed minded, education and healthcare need to be huge wasters of resources, it's where our money should be going, like a big black hole, trying to get our money back is profiting off the sick and/or the children.

In this PPP scenario the owner of the school building would make the decision of advertising etc.. and he would make the decision based on profit as a businessman, it's not even a decision. It is an absolute and that is only in the situation where advertisement isn't openly declared as a primary income from the get go.

The government choosing how to educate us is one thing but the corporate world has no interest in creating an intelligent populous whatsoever. Keep in mind it's mindless consumption that our new fear based economy depends on.

Whatever about all the "posturing" on this board, the naive nature of the people following what our "leaders" tell us is a pathetic state for any group of people to be in.

This is most welcome. We need the innovation of the private-sector to reduce the burden on the Irish taxpayer in terms of the cost educating the children of Ireland, while ensuring they are educated in high-quality school buildings. The State has shown itself incapable of delivering this alone.

This is because the state has lost all power and must beg the bank for loans and as you can imagine a school doesn't profit and here is the problem. To say outsourcing our future intelligence to profiteers is the only alternative is ludicrous. A school that profits is not a school I would want any child to be in. It is disgusting and abhorent to apply the profit model on children before they are old enough to make an informed decision and also removing the possibility of them achieving this level of intelligence.

A high quality school building isn't worth a penny if it doesn't contain a good teacher that will teach kids to learn not just whats in whatever **************************************** book, panflet or book of dianetics.

Reduce the burdon on the tax payer?? If it solely went to education, health and welfare we would cover the cost many times. If we wanted to reduce the burden we would remove frivelous laws and remove any restriction on immigrants. Maybe we could stop funding the on going drug war, both sides.

All of Irelands biggest problems are man made, privatisation is beyond the opposite of a solution.

Well they say they have. But if they haven't then surely that is a further argument for greater private-sector involvement.
