OECD shows Irish spending on 3rd level well below Euro avg

Although the potential benefits to the economy and individuals greatly exceed the European average

Alongside Chile, Brazil and Hungary- our 3rd level spending levels are falling over the last number of years relative to GDP

They rate our 3rd level system as the most equitable for access for poorer students across 2 indicators...... This is the finding the USI will have to run with because otherwise there is very little that is exceptional about our 3rd levels apart from how very underfunded they are

Our spending on 1st and 2nd level seems to be skyrocketing............. many TDs are.............. teachers....... surprise surprise. Teachers salaries are 5th highest using PPP

The report ends with the very apt comment for p.ie............ Without data, you are just another person with an opinion

Of course it's way below average, all our public services are funded below OECD average and have been for 20 years. Yet between 1997 and 2007 the FFers continued to tell us we never had it so good.

A thread on a major report is naturally gazumped by a debate on the "standard school year". maybe I should have put the word "immigration" "IRA" or "PDs to disband" to encourage people to open the thread
