Ireland's spending on Education is an absolute disgrace

I was doing some reasearch on Ireland's spending on education yesterday and it is absolutely abysmal. Every piece I have read points towards lower than average spending on education than the EU average per capita (the average includes Romania, Bulgaria, Poland etc) and almost bottom out of the OECD countries. Just searched online there and it confirms this, here's one IT piece

The same goes with our spending in health. We spend 10% less than the EU average per capita. Public spending on health is one of the lowest of any developed country, in spite of massive increases in health expenditure since the late 1990s. Total Irish spending on health was 7.1 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) in Ireland in 2004, below the 8.9 per cent average across developed countries. Just googled it there to confirm and the reports are all similar

Now I know these links are a little old but if anything we have cut spending or are planning to in the mean time. While the crooks in government continue to tell us we should be grateful to them all the stats prove otherwise. This country is being dragged into the gutter by the gombeen men profiteering from our hard labour while they in return provide shoddy services amongst the worst in developed countries. It's about time we stood up to these shower of crooks and scumbags. They are ripping us off and taking ordinary people for a ride.

I'm perfectly aware of the difference, why would you think otherwise? Typical of you to defend incompetent capitalists who don't even attempt to meet the needs of the people. Pity the Vietnamese didn't kill him.

You cannot use our GDP when making comparisons between Ireland and other countries. Our economy is heavily dependent on multinationals and the profits they make here are repatriated to their host country. This revenue is counted in our GDP but not in our GNP which takes account of those inflows and outflows. For most countries the difference between GNP and GDP is 5% either way but for Ireland. In Ireland the GDP is about 125% of out GNP. If you compare our spending on health etc as %s of GNP with similar EU countries we are about average or slightly above.

This is a widely known fact. Unfortunately this does not stop those with an agenda and the plain ignorant like Nagy from trotting out this white elephant at every opportunity.
