I don't accept your blanket criticism of Local Authorities but i do agree with the need for radical reform. The PD's promised the Greens might deliver it. If they do they will have my support on that issue.

O, like a nearly three-fold increase (xls) over the last 10 years? You should really check your facts instead of making stuff up.

That is not true - there has been a shift in how the Department calculates. The FACTs in relation to Dublin City - which is the only rea that i have researched:

Domestic rates forgone E220million Local Government grant in liue E97million.

Benchmarking E76million grant in liue 0

Rates on Government Properties unpaid in 2006 E27million - this goes backs each year.

Add in Lack of Local Authority house building collapse and additional responsibilities - but not powers - transferred and it comes to a lot more money.

Cllr in all fairness it'd be quite a push to call that post research. You said that central government was withdrawing large amounts of resources from local government. I provided a link showing the grant from central to local government has almost tripled in the period in question. Then you post the above "FACTS", which just make no sense. If you can't stand over your posts you should just quit making them.

Looks like Mary Hanafin knew about the chages a year ago, according to the Indo today.
Didnt she try and push this onto John Gormley as his responsibility and his problem a few weeks back?

Bray head or should I say Minister you should really get your facts right. Under this and the previous two Governments direct funding to Dublin City Council - and that is the only one I claim to have knowledge about has fallen. In addition to the reduced allocations additional responsibilities but as I have said not new powers have been given to us without funding.

The main reason for the figures you produce is the transfor of roads funding to the Local Government heading.

typical hanafin still abdicating responsibility while pretending everything is going to plan and slighting others, when a principal in waterford complained about the water charges she said EVERYBODY GETS THE SAME BUDGET meaning its that principals fault for not being able to manage his school.
What does the Irish President spend their time doing. Work in progress
