    Private Education. Segregation?

Why is the Government paying the salary of teachers in private schools, surely this is akin to paying the Salary of a full time Consultant in the private Beacon hospital.

The State are simply funding and encouraging a two tier educational system.

In my experience, one of the main reasons people send their children to private schools is the 'Dinner Party Factor', snobs like to 'sish arinde' and chat about how much they are paying for young Owen to go to 'Blackrowk'.

Good on them, what ever you're into, but why should the tax payer fund this?

Is that your experience? Can't say I was ever at one dinner party like that, let alone whatever number is required to discern a pattern. You must be a smoked salmon

I've no idea why this is under SF but I don't think that there should be any such thing as private education.

Education should be a right for all citizens and people shouldn't be able to buy a better education because they were born with the ability to pay for it.

And while there are private education institutions they lure the best possible teachers away from the public sector. It's a polite way of saying that poor people don't deserve the best education.
We should be shaping an Ireland based on full respect for the human and civil rights of all our people, an Ireland of which Larkin and Connolly would be very proud.

Why is this in Sinn Féin? There seems to be a lot of utterly non-SF threads being started in SF. The mind boggles...

Main reason I personally experience people sending their chidren to fee paying schools (we don't have private schools per se, exceptions being the institute and such places) is family tradition and religious ethos.

But the institute isn't a school.

A subjective comment, but one which I would entirely agree with. It is a points generation station with a complete disregard to anything which I would consider to be education- however it is an example of a truly private 'school' in that it meets its entire costs with its fees.
