The Google driverless car - we should be an early adopter

Google have developed a car that can drive itself. Below is a really good 4 minute clip on it.
The benefits are staggering - economically and socially.
    Burn less fuel
Effectively double our road network capacity
No more time lost to commuting
    Buses/lorries/taxis etc
Access to communities for older people
Huge reduction (or elimination) or road accidents - knock on benefits to reducing strain on emergency services and health system.

I think Ireland should go to google and say that we want to be an early adopter and are willing to engage in looking a law changes etc. that would be required to facilitate it.

Would love it, when it becomes ubiquitous people will realise how much time they wasted driving cars. Having to be in control of a vehicle at all times is pure stone age in technology terms. Should be relatively easy to implement a self drive lane in motorways, an urban or national road rural setting is a different thing. Bring it on...

The technology is all in the car - you don't need designated or enabled lanes in a motorway. The car can go anywhere.

And the womenfolk would be able to put on their make up and text their hairdressers whilst they 'drive' to work. Oh wait!

I'll probably wait for version 2.

Or if Microsoft are involved, version 6.

    You can imagine the message..

Oops... google appears to have embedded you in a articulated lorry. Please wait while we try to reconnect .... your head.

Joking aside. It is a logical step for the future. Will be very weird for the first while though!

Excellent - like the option when I have a few pints; instead of my usual little sneaky paths home..
