Don't agree education ought to be holistic...
So if you don't agree in holistic education, why do you want YOUR religious beliefs to be taught during the school time by teachers paid by the taxpayers?

This isn't really necessary at all is it. Firstly, have we the money for this, secondly, even if we did should the State be running schools at all!

Grainne there's hardly a nun to be found in convent schools so I find it hard to imaging a nun taking over in a Vec school!
I went to a Vec school and we had A small Protestant student community and the local vicar came in every week to offer re to the students. These children were very much a part of the school in every way and I don't recall any nuns machine gunning hail Mary's ..... We didn't have mass and no religious symbols outside the re class ....
The only mass was for a second yr who died tragically and this was a funeral mass....

I have been to Protestant funeral services and enjoyed the singing and marveled at the differences but never felt threatened in any way..
Faith is not a disease its very much part of most peoples experiences -

I do agree in holistic education why do u think I don't - I spend about three lunch breaks a week taking teams - and of I am lucky enough to get a crop of talent I will do extra session on weekends coming up to big matches

I'm not big into musicals but always help out when called upon

Not all children are academic and we don't need all students to be scientists and mathematicians most of the stuff we learn we forget but the experiences and the way we were treated stays with us forever - it forms our character and builds our self esteem..

I never said a nun took over a VEC. She was part of the staff - something to do with an arrangment with the two schools that came together to form the community college..

"we had A small Protestant student community and the local vicar came in every week to offer re to the students."

How nice of your school to single them out like that. Heaven forbid you could have an RE class that would encompass all religions and even have a place for those of no religion!

"These children were very much a part of the school in every way "

Except when there was a school mass, of course. Because non-Catholics are not allowed to take communion, so even if they went to the mass, they couldn't fully participate.

"The only mass was for a second yr who died tragically and this was a funeral mass...."

That's not what I'm talking about. Most schools have masses for different years, especially first years and leaving certs.

"I have been to Protestant funeral services and enjoyed the singing and marveled at the differences but never felt threatened in any way.."

How interesting. I fail to see what relevance it has to this discussion.

Because you said: "Don't agree education ought to be holistic..." I see from your general writing that you seem to be unaware of commas, question marks etc. Do I take it there should have been a comma after "education"?

So if you are prepared to spend lunchtimes giving your free time to coaching sport, why couldn't your local parish priest spend his teaching Roman Catholic doctrine?
