I work in Adult Education and in my opinion giving money to third level institutions to set up courses specifically to retrain this group of workers has the potential to be a complete waste of time for the workers and a cash cow for the Institutions. Who decides what type of courses are provided? If you don't want to do one of these courses can you access other educational opportunities. Is this going to be the FAS model where you give superficial training to large numbers of people in the same thing and then say away you go, you're now retrained find a job.
Adult Education and retraining is quickly becoming a joke in this country, a social service for unemployed people and just a way of keeping the live register numbers down.
