Students, researchers lose access to documents due to cutbacks

I was in TCD library using databases this week, and i did notice how there was no longer access to some journals. This particular stealth cutback now makes sense to me. I would also add the academics that I spoke to seemed jaded, exhausted and I did wonder if my former department would survive much longer as those retiring are not being replaced!

FFS: education is NOT A MARKETPLACE and it should not be treated as such. Everyone should get the best education they can, and there should be an end to these 'petty' cutbacks in funding for this or that project. If you treat Irish tertiary education like a marketplace - you can ultimately end up with a crash... peeps will just go elsewhere!!

As far as I know, the Students' Union have a campaign against students paying extra money for College services, while also campaigning for extended library hours. Funny that.

Johnfás..... those titles were dumped by IReL because of low uptake stats. Unfortunately, most researchers use Google instead of their university website but Google isn't counter compliant and so the committee had litle or no option. If lecturers and researchers want to preserve journals like those you've listed then they'll have to discipline themselves to using counter compliant , deepweb searches instead of relying on Google( which is a surface crawler )

FF didn't cut anything. The SFI cut their funding. The HSE made up a proportion of it. So only some of the Journals were cut. The choice... see above for reasons.
