Ahern also in that period was a fantastic Labour Minister, You cant deny that did manage to negoiate some remarkable outcomes during that 97-92 period.

RTE now have story up on website with audio link

RTE The Government's proposal to establish the National Asset Management Agency has received backing from a second former Fine Gael leader.

Speaking on RTÉ Radio's This Week, Alan Dukes said he was for the idea, echoing the support given to NAMA by Dr Garret FitzGerald.[more]

Not necessarily. Nobody outside official Ireland likes Nama, most people can see a scam when they have their noses rubbed in it. Bruton opposed benchmarking when everyone said it was politically mad to do so. The people will realise in time that Nama is a false solution.

You get the feeling he has spotted something appaling in the cesspit that is Anglo and suspects there is similar in the other banks.
It is one of the few frank reasons to support NAMA I have heard to date.
But the gagging clause built into the NAMA legistation, no mention of pursuing developers who hide assets.
What is that about?
Its only a chat, we ain't the world council.
In 2000 the Women's Institute in Britain gave Tony Blair the slow hand clap to demonstrate their contempt.
It was dignified, restrained and effective.Doesn't Bertie deserve the same scorn. No shouting, no abuse, no agression just a relentless slow clap whenever he speaks in public would be enough to end that man's presidential fantasy.

Even the EU have already messed up the maFFia's plan to overpay for the "assets".

In the forthcoming General Election, FG will be on the side of 74% of the people who reject NAMA.

Fitzgerald and Dukes fight over which one of them was first to come up with the Tallaght strategy.

You woudn't recognise a neutral viewer if he jumped up and bit you on the #i#@.

Remind me again how much longer it will be until we reach the date that you predicted in 2007 that disgraced former FF Taoiseach Ahern would retire.

In fairness to Dukes, he always applies logic to his decision making. It was his weakness as a party leader. He has insider information on the state of Anglo and that has to colour his opinion. He previously clashed with FG over their proposal to wind down Anglo. Sometimes you get too close to a problem and can't see the woods for the trees. I for one am not going to change my mind about Nama until I am convinced. The days of unquestioning faith in our betters is gone.

At Anglo, he has allowed taxpayer money to be used to pay off subordinated bondholders - crazy.
