    IMF Rescue a Bad Thing?

Would it really be such a bad thing?

The current political leaders are incapable of making tough decisions & the opposition don't inspire that much confidence.

Maybe the threat of bankruptcy would allow a 3rd party make the tough decisions?

Yes it would, The IMF have done just as much harm than good with their interventions and it is so fustrating listening to people who know bugger all about the IMF talking like an authority about them.

In 1976 when the IMF bailed out the Brits, it did huge damage to their economy and Britain still went into one of their worst worst recessions- The IMF does not have a magic wand nor is it a massive economic authority- remember they revised their growth projections no less than 3 times in a year.

Nor Can the IMF change a government, The IMF will offer a loan to government on certain conditions e.g cuts in expenditure and it is then up to that government to make proposals to the IMF and if they are satisfied then they give the loan.

So, Please lets stop this nonsense/obsession with the bloddy IMF and actually debate things like NAMA, Lisbon, Public sector reform, Trade etc which actually really matter.

IMF bailout would be the worst

if the country is going to be destroyed i'd prefer NAMA to do it - i'm not a complete sadist

Also if you analyse the situation carefully it's clear the ECB is helping us a lot

So we've little obvious need yet for any monetary bailout

That said the IMF could act as a "big stick" to make the numpties take their medicine : FF have no political capital and it is clear that the people who are abandoning them are going to Labour ... and Labour is headed by a cynical spindoctor who spoofs his way along and promises money from trees.

We could well use the IMF to throw a bucket of cold water over those suckers

Yes it would be a bad thing.

We can do what needs to be done ourselves, we just need our politicans to grow a pair.

60% of countries that have had IMF intervention believe they did more harm than good.

I think we actually have and are already being bailed out by the IMF through the ECB.

I think if we vote no to Lisbon the ECB will stop the aid and the IMF wil officialy step in.

No doubt we will then be forced to accept Lisbon, in the same way Iceland has to join Europe and adopt the Euro.

The consitution will in effect be aboloished because in a sense the country has failed and become bankrupt.

The IMF are idiots. Their only priority will be ensuring that a whole lot of undeserving bankers get their loans paid back. There is a backlash developing against the IMF in Asia and South America. Those people will never have anything to do with the IMF again.

    Ever hear of IMF riots?
