The silence of the 46 lambs - not even a baa

The silence of the 46 lambs is deafening – not a baa from any of them.

Following Garret Fitzgerald’s critical comments on yesterday’s Morning Ireland regarding the quality of their analysis, in particular their exaggeration of the projected budget deficit, Pat Kenny opened his programme at 10.00am with a reprise of Garret’s comments.

Kenny revealed that the programme had contacted Prof. Brian Lucey about Garret’s criticisms. Lucey claimed that “the numbers weren’t important” (is that a first from an economist?) and declined to come on air to discuss the issue. (Now that definitely is a first for this ubiquitous media whore.)

Kenny then said that the programme had also attempted, without success, to contact several of the other signatories. He then issued an open invitation for any one of the 46 signatories to contact the programme.

Kenny closed the programme at 12.00 without any contact from the gang of 46. Will we hear anything from them today, I wonder?

Following Alan Ahearne’s dissection of their sloppy miscalculation of the value of the underlying security, Garret’s attack may well have terminated the credibility of this bunch of wasters.
Good to see that there’s life in the old dog still.

That's an interesting take on things.

Here's how Brian Lucey sees it...
(The Irish Economy Blog Archive Shane Coleman on NAMA)
he (partially) quoted a statement I made to them this morning. He also insinuated that his team couldnt raise anyone who signed the oped as (paraphrasing) “its early in the morning and schools out”. this despite the fact that I knew that the PK team had rang at least two others (one abroad, the other otherwise engaged) . Unable Pat, is not always equal to unwilling. He also said I was unwilling to go on air - unable due to too much else to do (typing this at my home office desk where I have a coffee, and have been here since 0815h….) is more accurate.
For the record, what I said was “the issue of the deficit being .. is ultimately a sideshow in the debate on NAMA.” As it is. the real issues are payment, risk sharing and absorbsion, and so on

we won't know any of those numbers until well after the cheques have been cashed.
Actual morality is doing what is right regardless of what you're told. Religious morality is doing what you're told, regardless of if it's right.

I am loving the spin on this, the EU have more or less said its an ok idea, but its critical not to over pay. FF's plan was always to overpay.

Fully agree with you on this, G Fitzgerald has all but destroyed any credibility of the anti NAMA show, by publicly stating that it is the only way for this country to go otherwise the IMF will come in. I think, as I have say in other posts, that some people are blinded by the fact that power is within their reach and know that if NAMA works that their chance is gone, I agree with Garrett, we need to put the Country first above all else....

There are good criticisms of Nama to be made but most of the 46 aren't up to it, surprised that Karl Wheelan got involved with them

Honohan is way more important than any of the 46 - his take will be noteworthy
