Even if you can't get rent allowance, you are surely entitled to claim a tax rebate on your rental costs.

I have about three years to back claim. It's prob only a few hundred but, it's my money, not theirs.

I would urge everyone to use the Revenue to their own advantage. Get the info. from them, and claim your allowances.

I do believe another sinner has been saved. If you do feel like reoffending, you may want to cleanse any evil thoughts of property purchase by reading thepropertypin for a few hours. the threads are relentlessly negative and should give you some cause for caution.

Good luck! Remember the deposit thing though - the banks aren't really announcing it but unless you can show them you are into the habit of putting money aside, they'll never give you a mortgage. Even if it's only €100 a month, but you must demonstrate a record of saving and financial discipline.

Do that, and your mortgage application when the times comes will be much smoother.

Edit: And yeah, if you are earning and paying income tax and renting, then you are entitled to a tax rebate at the end of the year. It's only a couple of hundred euro, but as the man said, it's your money, not theirs. It's simple, you just fill in a quick form and send it off to the Revenue, they send you back a cheque
