Total market value of the banks?

Does anyone know the total market value of all the Irish banks?

How does it compare with the 60-90bln to be paid for a selection of their assets?

Te total value of Irish Banks is minus- 100 billion, insolvent, bankrupt, should be shutdown and replaced.
A champion of the people emerges with the age-old and appealing promise of "something for nothing" - to be financed through every-increasing taxes. Supply and demand are thrown out of gear - the overhead goes up; the effective use of human energy goes down; the standard of living is lowered because money cannot buy wealth that is not produced.

If we are talking in cash terms then I think Cato's valuation is reasonable however in bartering terms I would propose that their combined worth would be a very small anorexic turkey..

I'm talking about the total price for all their shares.

My reason for asking is I suspect the total share price for all the banks is significatly below the 60bln nama pricetag for buying a subset of the banks assets.

Comparing the two numbers might drive home the insanity of NAMA to joe public.

In total, they're worth about €4-5bn.

    Well done, Einstein.

The exact and precise reason we need NAMA is because the market valuation of the banks is only a fraction of the book value of the assets.

There's this thing called INSOLVENCY. You might have heard it on the news recently.

Where did you get 5 euro something from?

If you cannot find share prices on the web there is little hope for any serious debate here.
