Absolutley. At the moment many of us fire money into pension schemes with no control on how it will perform. The reality these days is that many have taken huge hits. The above scenario allows someone to take some semblance of control over their own pensions. At least they get to mange the pension fund themselves so to speak rather than throwing money down a black hole.
They get to choose the location, mange the property, fit the place out, fix the rent and all these things that actually determine the rental income. I'm only jealous to be honest !!!

How is a landlord buying a property in Dublin and renting it out to students from Offaly a parasite. The Offally students have no intention of buying in Dublin so both landlord and tennant get what they want?

All universities should have state built accomodation to rent to students rather than allow them to be ripped off by scummy landlords.

Your apologetics for statism is disheartening. You're a vulgar communist.

    Correct.

Unfortunately Cowen has no interest in stimulating the economy or getting people employed.

All FF and Cowen care about is making sure the developer debts owed to Anglo Irish Bank are taken care of, I suspect because Anglo has Fianna Fail over a barrel and no where all the dodgy bank accounts are and all the corrupt payments were deposited for fianna fail politicians.

I think Ireland is too small and in too much debt to create a stimulus. I agree with the government that a mixture of tax rises and spending cuts are needed (though I disagree with their emphasis on tax)

How about the people that come to Dublin and planned to work for a couple of years, make some money and move home. They have no intention of living here long term and need some place to rent?

The last budget was a tax raising one - they took an extra 4k a year from me. They cannot continue this steep curve so spending cuts is the only option left.

We can,t print money so no stimulus, the ECB are working the printers ,loaning out billions to our banks to buy government debt ,nice earner for the banks and taking government out of a hole ,but nothing in it for the real people that matter only more taxation to pay the interest.
Isn't this a great little country that we put up with this carry on.

A champion of the people emerges with the age-old and appealing promise of "something for nothing" - to be financed through every-increasing taxes. Supply and demand are thrown out of gear - the overhead goes up; the effective use of human energy goes down; the standard of living is lowered because money cannot buy wealth that is not produced.
