    Not Just Another Communist Thread!

I know some peolple don't like Communism being discussed in economics but I can't see why not.

Anyway, a few have expressed the view that Communism in Ireland could be a reality sooner than we think. But is this possible when the middle classes make up the bulk of the population? For the revolution to happen does the proletariate not need to be in the majority? Maybe I'm wrong but I wouldn't consider middle class as proletariate.
And if the bourgeoisie are those who own property, is that not the majority of people in the country?

Just another communist thread. The bloke can't even spell 'proletariat'.
A P.ie moderator stated this on June 25th 2010: P.ie tolerates very broad free speech, and thus allows sectarian bigotry etc

There is a difference between the Proletariat and the Working Class. The Proletariat are the class conscious Working Class. Unfortunately, a large percentage of the Working Class (who are the overwhelming majority in Ireland) are under the delusion that they are Middle Class, and buy into the bourgeois ideology that capitalism brings unlimited prosperity and that everyone can be a millionaire. Reality, however, is starting to rear its less than pretty head.

I wouldn't class myself as a Communist so I made a stab at a spelling. Sorry if that wrecked your educated Sunday. I misspelt people too, does that insult your intelligence as well?

The proletariat is definately the majority in Ireland. And with regards to your point on property, I see no problem with people owning their own homes etc as a socialist, this certainly does not make them anything less than workers, if they have worked their whole life to afford what they have then fair play to them. However, it is a different story when we talk about people with extreme wealth, millions worth of property and who make their money off the backs of the labour of others. I believe such properties should come under compulsory acquisition by the state, with a % compensation relevent to the wealth that person has etc

I don't believe that communism is inevitable in ireland in the near future, absolutely not. But I do believe that over the next couple of years capitalism will be on the ropes, with inceased cuts coming in thick and fast and dole queue's getting longer, if the left actually sorted itself out then socialism would be a possibility. However, petty ego issues on the left seems to prevent this from happening

We hardly need to disprove the absence of communism, do we?
