    Proud to be a Communist

I notice that a lot of Socialists are afraid of using the word Communist to describe themselves. I suppose that is natural given all the hostility the word gets from the right wing elements who control the media and "educational" system. But there can be no Socialism without Communism. Socialism without Communism is just trade union reformism - pure economism. Utterly worthless. We should proudly say that we are Communists and defy anyone who criticizes us. Certainly bad things were done in the name of Communism, certainly gross mistakes were made - not as bad as Capitalism by any means, but thats no excuse - but the Communist teachings of Marx and Lenin still remain the hope for humanity, and it is humanity's hope that Marxism will save the world from the destruction Capitalism is now bringing it to.

    No.

Here's the user manual, for anyone wanting to be a Communist.

    Manifesto of the Communist Party

A spectre is haunting Europe — the spectre of communism. All the powers of old Europe have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre: Pope and Tsar, Metternich and Guizot, French Radicals and German police-spies.

Where is the party in opposition that has not been decried as communistic by its opponents in power? Where is the opposition that has not hurled back the branding reproach of communism, against the more advanced opposition parties, as well as against its reactionary adversaries?

Two things result from this fact:

    I. Communism is already acknowledged by all European powers to be itself a power.

II. It is high time that Communists should openly, in the face of the whole world, publish their views, their aims, their tendencies, and meet this nursery tale of the Spectre of Communism with a manifesto of the party itself.

You do not know your own history very well. One of main reasons for split was opposition to Marxism.

Has communism / socialism ever worked anywhere on a large scale or have all attempts at such a theory ended in failure?

What value is put on human rights, freedom of expression and free will in a communist state?

Cael you should read the founding statement of the Provos. Three main issues were abstentionism, lack of arms in August 1969 and the infitration of IRA and SF by COMMUNISTS.
