Can someone explain to me why the old age pension will not be touched. Handing over €300 per week per OAP is obscene.

Because these people have contributed millions of Euro each towards tax receipts in their time and saved this kip in the past. They deserve a purple heart in my eyes.

Nonsense. Why do you think we afford to pay them as much in 2010 as we could in 2007? Numbers are more important than sentiment.

Give them a purple heart then, but not €300 per week. That's €600 per couple, while the family of four, next door, get about €340. We can't afford it.

Tax was, and is, tax. Not a pension fund.

This "deserve" stuff is mental in the extreme. You cannot ignore how much money we have to spend. Reality counts, the rest is B.S

They ruled the country to vote Dev (economic disaster), they let the church destroy the country and rape the kids, they didn't bother investigating anything to do with the church,, they gave the I.R.A big support, they banned condoms etc

These people are responsible for the kip Ireland was when their generation was running the country (in some ways, they still are)

The country can no longer support the OAP in its current form. But to touch it is a political and supposedly moral minefield, so it won't be touched!

Good assessment. Old people dying of cold and hunger does have the potential for political damage.

I'm not saying abolish it, I'm saying that it is need of reform. Like alot of our systems.
