As Reagan said taxing something results in less of it, subsidise it and you get more of it.

But taxing the earnings of the rich gives us the opportunity to bring many of our fellow citizens out of poverty, and to provide much needed government services to the population and nation as a whole. By taxing the rich we are in effect leaving more money in the deposits of the middle and working classes who are more likely to spend the money, as the money they have at their disposal is in most cases used to purchase necessary goods in the market, therefore benefitting the economy. By not taxing the rich, who often do not spend all that much of the earnings they have, you are in this regard freezing an asset. By taxing the rich, you are decreasing the burden on the working and middles classes. This also benefits the economy and the nation's businesses and industry.
For instance, let's say I earn €2,000 per week, and we have ten other people who earn €200 each weekly. I would say in most cases that those ten people would spend at least three-quarters of their paycheck in any given week, so that would contribute €1500 to the economy. However under no circumstances (apart from perhaps an expensive mortgage) would a man who earns €2,000 a week spend even half of that. And then there is also the case of likelihood; those ten people are certain to spend the money, whereas we cannot be sure if the man earning €2,000 a week will spend even half of it. If you are running a small shop or business, it is in your interest that the working and middle classes have more money at their disposals. Whereas the money that could be resting in a rich man's bank account for years- would likewise have been spent by others, having benefitted the economy, and hence employment in the meantime.

The whole point is that taxation discourages savings and production and encourages short-sighted bahaviour like consumption and non-production. Which is bad.
