    Would a fiscal stimulus work?

I was just thinking, if you look at Britain/America,Canada and Oz were they have embarked upon massive fiscal stimulus packages, have they actually made a huge amount of difference?

Would a Stimulus package in Ireland make any difference or is it really just throwing money away?

I'm sure it would help a little but we just can't afford.

    Two words: open economy.

Any attempt to stimulate consumer spending will fail due to large leakages out of economy via purchases of imports. They don't make them plasma TVs on the Longmile Road, dontcha know.

The main problem with an Irish stimulus package is the general scale and diversity of our domestic economy: for big economies like the US, the majority of the stimulus stays within the economy because most resources and production are domestic. Here, a significant portion of the cash would leak out due to our reliance on imports.

Well, what do you think our marginal propensity to save currently is?

I understand the largest proportion of our imports is business machinery, plasma TVs being relatively unimportant.
When you see the words "Mises" or "Hayek" in someone's post, just ask yourself: do I really want to ban paper money and go back to gold?

You have to pity the kind of people who buy into conspiracy theories. I find the following to be the saddest words on the internet: "Re: connection between Bilderberg puppet lady gaga and viral outbreak in ukraine "
