AN OVERHAUL of child benefit payments, cuts in garda numbers and downsizing the public sector will be the most controversial options in a biting €5bn cuts package proposed by An Bord Snip.

Richard Bruton has a political veto on whether this will be implemented in full. With ff backbenchers eg charlie tallaght getting weak at the knees, cowen will need political cover from fine gael as he no longer has the clout. But will richard bruton put his country before the immediate needs of his party? Bruton and FG won't be needed. FF will do what they are told by Cowen.
I think the Army could be downsized, now the IRA/Troubles are no longer around.
I'm broadly in favour of the cuts rumoured so far but cutting the number of Gardai is daft. Do you think the Garda standing outside Dail Eireann will be re-assigned? What about the gardai driving ministers and ex-ministers around? Bertie's driver who is paid by the state to drive him to his talks where he earns thousands? Nope. The stations will see the cuts so you and I will suffer but the people who benefit most from them won't see any reduction. Brainless as usual.
