So why do we need a Minister for Finance if we have outsourced his responsibilities?

When you haven't the balls to do the right thing.
Set up a taskforce.
The eighties were riddled with them.
Be seen to be doing something that the most important thing.
Its only a chat, we ain't the world council.
In 2000 the Women's Institute in Britain gave Tony Blair the slow hand clap to demonstrate their contempt.
It was dignified, restrained and effective.Doesn't Bertie deserve the same scorn. No shouting, no abuse, no agression just a relentless slow clap whenever he speaks in public would be enough to end that man's presidential fantasy.

Is their any chance we could get a few SMART politicians .
A champion of the people emerges with the age-old and appealing promise of "something for nothing" - to be financed through every-increasing taxes. Supply and demand are thrown out of gear - the overhead goes up; the effective use of human energy goes down; the standard of living is lowered because money cannot buy wealth that is not produced.

Is there anything more disappointing than Cowen appointing, a force tasked to be smart?
A brand new quango to lead where the gang go, is just another stab to the heart.
The economy is ruined, and we are all doomed, for that we can thank Paddy Bart.
But now we have the Brians, who maybe fond of their wines but know as about finance as art.
So they will delegate, until its too late and the good times for ever will depart.
If the banks are out for a bail,
and Lenny's efforts end up as a fail,
when the Somer does come,
to the Country they'll run,
And leave a Fine mess for the Gael.

Endinf the one Party (FF) state:

Guess they will produce a report at high cost which will ultimately never be implemented.

Cowen has no credibility now, especially after the IMF lashing of his policies.

7 months?

The lights were flashing 3 years ago
The alarm Bells were ringing 2 years ago
The patient was on a ventilator 1 year ago

The planning for these economic times should have taken place 10 years ago

its all about abdicating responsibility. Cowen will tell the public, bord snip nu recommended they cut social welfare, what else can he do!!!!!

reality is, we elect a government to govern, not to hide behind other bodies. Harney has been doing this with the HSE for years. There's nothing wrong with seeking advice, but don't be a coward about saying where the buck stops.
