Should the Minister for Finance, Brian Lenihan, be sacked?

Just wondering what people's opinions are on this.

Is there anyone that actually thinks he's doing a good job in what are very trying circumstances? Has he inherited a mess and is he doing a good job fixing it?

Is there anyone from Fianna Fail, or who votes Fianna Fail, on here that thinks he should be sacked?

In my opinion, the economy has been completely mishandled by the Govt over the last number of years so it is not entirely Lenny's doing. However, the Economy is his responsibility so as Minister he should be taking responsibility for this and should be resigning or facing the sack... not in Ireland though!

    I want him out.

    No.
    But Coughlan should be.
And Cowen should consider nominating himself to the EU Commission job.
If the banks are out for a bail,
and Lenny's efforts end up as a fail,
    when the Somer does come,
    to the Country they'll run,
And leave a Fine mess for the Gael.

Endinf the one Party (FF) state:

Can we not just have a GE? On the news last night we saw Mary harney ludicriously defending her 'mandate' to be Minister for Health. She scrapped the last seat in her constituency, is an independent. Some mandate!!!

Every single member of the Ahern and Cowen Cabinets should have their heads displayed on pikes as a warning to future generations that some favours come at too high a price

lenehan cannot be blamed for the mess - maybe his response to it, but not for getting us there. That said, I don't really have much confidence in him and would prefer Richard Bruton.

He sat in Ahern's cabinets and said nothing about the utterly reckless economic policies. He's as guilty as anyone else in FF, his silence as the country was ruined condemns him as one of The Enemy.

Then he spent a couple of years denying there was a problem at all and claiming everything was just peachy, when it had been obvious - obvious - since late 2006 that the public finances were on a rapidly-deteriorating trajectory and that the housing bubble had burst.

And then he sticks the entire country on the great big f***ing €400bn hook of the utterly head-slappingly insane Bank Guarantee. And then he goes and nationalises a criminal conspiracy pyramid scheme by the name of "Anglo Irish Bank" leaving the taxpayer liable for another €100bn in dodgy loans to dodgy builders! And then, not content, he completely bungles a whole series of "emergency" budgets, completely failing to actually address the real underlying problems and structural imbalances in the Irish economy but instead determined to stiff the weakest and poorest to ensure the privileged and rich can saunter off scot-free. And still he was not done, he then wants to extend the insane Guarantee further increasing the exposure of the taxpayer, he wants to burn all our national savings by attempting to prop up more corrupt and insolvent banks, and he wants to take three months off all over the summer while he hopes the Tooth Fairy and Santa sort it all out somehow while he is away.

The man is a clear and present danger to the continued existance of the Republic, he is a traitor to the People, he is balls-deep in criminal enterprises, he is scum, scum, scum, and putting his head on a pike is too good for him!

When oh when will the Irish people get over their fearful cringing servility to the gangster mafioso of Fianna Fáil?! He's not a God, he's not a medieval Chieftain, he's not "automatically deserving of respect" because of his surname or his party - he's a f***ing spiv! They're all f***ing spivs! That's all they are, a bunch of wide-boys and spivs stealing from you and your children to line their own pockets! That's it! There is nothing else! Thieves, criminals, traitors! It really is that simple!

Lenihan indemnified the directors of Anglo against action. Enough said.

I think the minister for finance is doing a good job particularly since the turn of the year.

If you consider running up the national debt as being a good job then yes, the is doing very very very well.
