Where the Public Sector pay grades went loopers was in the middle management and upper grades. The best example is that of our TD's who are tied to the Principal Officer Grade at €101k. Can anyone here argue that this grade should not be reduced to say €80k? I reckon there needs to be a 5-12.5% cut across grades up to and including Higher Executive Officers, 15-20% on APO/PO's and 25% on higher grades. With their equivalents across the public sector hit similarly. So the cuts will range from 5% for the likes of Local Authourity outdoor staff, Teachers/Gardai 7.5-10%, 12.5% for a Town Clerk in a large Town/Principal of a large school, 20% for our TD's and middle management grades, and 25% for Assistant Secretary's/Secretary's/Judges/Ministers etc.

    Can anyone disagree with that?

    What's that supposed to mean?

Failing to address my points and instead patronising me shows the validity of your position.

A competitive advantage can be achieved throughout the supply chain.

Turning a particular type of production into our main domestic industry will enable us a bigger scale of production and thus economies of scale.
    Houses are a resource??

Scientifically, what is the potential of our Wind and Wave electricity production? I am not a scientist but having looked into this, I do not think we could even meet our own demand with wind and wave energy production. To even begin to export energy we would have to build a nuclear power plant.

I shudder at the prospect of a FF government embarking an a nuclear strategy. There would be cracks in the walls from all the dodgy developers given contracts because they are Friends.

This sentence of the report is enough to show that it's an economiclly unsustainable system.
How can they say that unless they compare the same jobs, which they can't do?

And the majority of public sector workers are not paid well at all. It is the consultants, judges and politicians that are overpaid, not the teachers, nurses and binmen.

    Sarah

Considering the EU negotiates on behalf of its members are GATT and other world economic forums, and you don't want Ireland to be part of it - Ireland must leave the EU too.

We would be a tiny country, with barriers to our exports to Europe(including UK) and America.

How could a country of 4m, with no oil or anything, survive against such barriers to trade?

It'd be like Devela's Ireland during the economic war with britain - much grimmer than today's problems.

On an industrial basis, I'm sure we could meet our requirements nationally for energy. However, with solar panels and wind turbines on every building in the country, we could easily add to that.

However, I can't claim to know anything about the mechanical engineering and electronics behind it.

Statement - a declaration. What you say is a statement. What you ask is a question.

I can actually see cuts like the above being imposed by the government. There is a way of actually doing it. Get the President to invoke the emergency provisions of the Constitution, make an emergency order directing that pay cuts like the above be applied, and then end the emergency provisions. The emergency order making the pay cuts cannot be challenged in the Courts and hey presto you have your across the board pay cuts. Mind you every FF/GP TD may as well go shopping for that retirement villa in the sun at the same time.
