There seems to have been very little leadership from FF in recent years (approximately since 1999) but much 'followship'; there's been a lack of ideas, no vision of where they are taking this country , an unwillingness to implement policies that opposition parties will criticise, and a reliance upon the EU as a source of new legislation (whether it suits us or not).
An Bord Snip is itself a dodgy exercise in media management , and derogation of responsibility. We have a Government of very highly paid ministers, and a Dail of expensive backbench TDs (busy lobbying for individuals in their constituencies, which is their chief role) but the job of drafting the menu of options for policy, at a time of national crisis, has been out-sourced to four unelected persons!
Will Ministers or backbenchers ADD any ideas to those proposed by the Bord Snip? I'm waiting to see. Why should we believe that the four members of the Bord have the moral courage to be unpopular, to make hard choices, to curb the vested interests who are their neighbours?
Will the Bord's recommendations actually put anything right?; or is it merely an exercise in managing expectations...as Cowan/Lenihan et al step in and save us from 'the worst that Bord Snip had planned'.
I have been quite uneasy about the drama of the whole Bord Snip thing.
